Latest company news about History of LCD panel

Some time ago just left the LCD panel industry, when the work was mainly involved in the direction of TFT-LCD, while there is still some enthusiasm, simply write some of their own understanding of the industry and views, mainly talk about the development of the LCD panel industry, in order to learn from the past detour of some beneficial to the future development of experience and inspiration."

What is TFT-LCD?

Before we start, let's talk about TFT-LCD.

Its full name is Thin Film Transistor Liquid Crystal Display. It combines TFT (thin film transistor) technology and LCD (liquid crystal display) technology, through the thin film transistor on the LCD control to achieve high-definition dynamic display, is the current mainstream of a kind of liquid crystal display technology, such as most common flat screen TV on the market, its screen is TFT-LCD screen.

As the development history of LCD panel is mainly the development history of TFT-LCD, so here the development history of TFT-LCD as a clue. But the LCD panel involves a much richer technology, here is a brief introduction to the concept, later if there is time to talk about the characteristics of various technologies, as well as the basic operation of TFT-LCD, then further explain its working principle.

Discovery of liquid crystals

A handsome Austrian named Friendrich Reinitzer (1857-1927), or Ozawa for short, was a botanist and chemist. In 1888, when he was studying cholesterol benzoate, he found an interesting phenomenon.

When the cholesterol benzoate was heated to 145℃, the solid cholesterol benzoate would turn into a white and thick liquid. When it was heated to 178℃, the white and thick liquid turned into a transparent liquid.

In other words, cholesterol parabens it has two melting points. In other words, cholesterol parabens it has two melting points. In addition, Ozawa found that cholesterol parabens between the two melting points are birefringent to the light beam, when the beam of light struck the cholesterol parabens in this state, it produced two refracted rays.

Baffled, Ozawa went to Otto Lehmann (1855-1922), a German physicist who was studying crystals at the time, or Ryger, to find out. Through in-depth and detailed research, he not only confirmed Ozawa's physical properties of double melting point birefringence of cholesterol benzoate, but also found many materials with the same properties, and proposed the concept of liquid crystal for the first time, so he is respected as the "father of liquid crystal".

By the way, Rhage was nominated for the Nobel Prize several times, but he ran with it for years, but he didn't win the prize. One, there were a lot of great people in physics in the first two decades of the 20th century, and two, he didn't know what the liquid crystal was going to do. It would be half a century before liquid crystals could be used.
